CUT YOUR OWN PATH

I'm blogging for the second day in a row. What is this sorcery?
I'm on a bit of a journey with my lettering. When I first started Abbie Imagine, I didn't really know what I wanted to do or where I wanted to go. I just knew that I loved to draw and I hoped and prayed that you guys would love it too. And you did. I had a lot of fun doing minimalist fandom pieces (and don't get me wrong, I still love doing that), but through trial and error and experimenting, I have discovered that what I love the most is hand lettering.
It's an art form I only realised I could do after spending months drooling over the likes of Emily Mcdowell and Rifle Paper co. And then I thought, if they can, why can't I?
So, a year later, here I am, bringing you two new hand lettered prints.
My training doesn't go beyond Skillshare classes and Pinterest tutorials and if I'm totally honest, I ignore most of what those classes told me and just do what feels right to me. But I'm trying and I'm learning and I'm gradually figuring out who I am as an artist. I've found my 'style' of writing, which definitely helps and brings a sense of comfort to my doodling days.
I know my weakness– composition and colour schemes. Honestly, my pencil drawings are always such a mess before I take them into Illustrator and reposition everything! It's not the best way to work and almost certainly not the right way to work, but it does work, at least for me.
When it comes to creativity, rules are really just a guideline. If you want to do it, do it. Don't let a lack of training or knowledge or skill hold you back. Cut your own path. Who cares if it zigzags for miles. If you gets you to where you want to be, that's really all that matters.
Side note: these two prints are now available in my shop.
