AUGUST FAVOURITES

August. The height of summer. Cue blue skies, a scorching sun, shorts, beaches and BBQ's.

That's not quite the August we're getting down here in sunny ol' Cornwall, which, being the UK, isn't that unusual. The photo above was taken from my bedroom window today. Sun, what sun?!

But a rainy day is never a bad thing in my book, it just gives me an excuse to sit around and read or immerse myself in a new Netflix marathon.

Here's what I've been loving this month.

Outlander

I started this on a whim a few weeks ago. I'd heard good things, but kept putting it off for no reason at all. When I did start, I didn't stop. I finished the series and I'm straight on the books because I just can't get enough of those Scots. And the fabulous Claire Beauchamp / Randall / Fraser (delete as applicable).

It's a love story, it's a drama, it's political. It's intense. But it's beautiful– I'm in love with the cinematography and the soundtrack. It's a must see and as it so happens, it's a damn good read as well.

The New Forest

I love this place and I think I've mentioned that once or twice or a million times before. Can you believe I hadn't been in two years? It's the longest I've ever not visited. But I was determined this year and off camping we went. I even drove, which is a huge feat for me as I get really anxious about driving and this was a four hour trip there and then back again. I've never driven beyond Plymouth, which is only an hour away from my village.

But I made it and it was magnificent. I saw cows and ponies, the Weasley's car and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I geeked out over the Top Gear cars (potentially for the last time...) and chatted to a monk. Though he did inform us that he wasn't a real monk, which was disappointing. We also saw a bird of prey show and had one bird almost fly into us. Twice. It was very windy and that's hard to navigate even when you're a pro flyer like Belle was. My sister almost had a heart attack both times as she's scared of birds, which was somewhat amusing.

Lettering

I haven't been doing this for very long and honestly, I'm a terribly impatient learner! I dive all in and hope for the best. It's a learning curve and I think I'm getting there. If nothing else, I'm having fun trying. I did attempt 100 days of lettering with the idea of uploading a new hand lettered design to social media each day. I didn't get very far though. But challenges aside, I'm going to keep going and try to perfect this skill. I have big plans for designs!

Family Times

This week I went to Falmouth with the vast majority of my family for a day at the beach. My nephew goes back to school very soon (he's going into Year 1. When did he get so old?!) so we headed to the beach for fun and lunch.

It rained. Because what's summer without wind and rain?

Still, the fish and chips was fab and my nephew is a little nutter, which always makes days out fun, no matter what the weather decides to do.

Here are some rainy day snaps:

It really is August, I promise!
 Until next time,
